Exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of Technical Policy Advice

Your new company This large government department is in Central Canberra. The department has a focus on developing policies and procedures to enhance Australia, specializing in world class research, analysis and advice to inform strategic policy and decision making.

Your new role Multiple Divisions within this Department are looking for EL1 Policy Managers to work on topical issues. This may include but is not limited to:

- Liaise, negotiate and effectively communicate with National and International Government agencies, industry bodies and other stakeholders in support of technical issues
- Undertake research, developing submissions and briefing in support of negotiations for relevant topics
- Provide input to the development of international standards
- Contribute to longer term project work within the section, whilst improving work practices and preparedness
- Provide secretariat and organisational support
- Organise and represent the Department at meetings/workshops within industry and trading partners as appropriate

What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience in a similar position within Federal Government or equivalent. As well as this, you will have:

- The willingness and ability to develop a working knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and regulations
- Trade experience, skills in biological sciences and/or knowledge of agricultural industries and export legislation
- The ability to develop a broad understanding of relevant IT systems
- Strong analytical skills, an ability to understand and communicate complex policy and technical issues
- Strong written and verbal communications, with the ability to contribute to and develop high level policy advice
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience within animal science, agricultural science, food science, microbiology, public health or international relations that is recognised in Australia

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher. What you'll get in return
