About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system. The three Youth Justice Custodial Precincts in Victoria are managed by the department. Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct is located approximately 100 kilometres north of Melbourne and Parkville Youth Justice Precinct located in the inner north of Melbourne. The Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct is located in the western suburbs of Melbourne and presents an exciting reform opportunity for Youth Justice Custodial Services (YJCS).
What does the General Maintenance Officerdo?
As the General Maintenance Officer, you will assist maintenance staff to maintain buildings to a high-quality standard by providing services throughout the youth justice precinct and other secure services sites as required. This includes undertaking maintenance works such as carpentry repairs, glazing and manufacturing a range of fittings, and ensuring all works comply with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and other regulations and standards as required.
While this position is based at either Parkville or Malmsbury, regular travel to other Youth Justice Precincts and head office may be required.
What skills should a General Maintenance Officer have?
- experience in building inspecting, problem resolution and cost estimation for general building and construction works within commercial parameters
- experience in building or maintenance repairs for general building and construction within a commercial or custodial environment.
- completion of an approved trades apprenticeship issued by the Industrial Training Commission of Victoria or equivalent in a recognised trade(s) such as carpentry, joinery, welding, glazing, locksmith, plumbing or relevant field
- a full and current driver's license.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
