Hays is excited to partner with a Queensland Federal Government Department. Our client specialises providing advice, developing policies and delivering programs to ensure better health for all Australians. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Policy Officer to join their team for a 12-month assignment, based in Brisbane CBD.

**Your new role**

In this role your day-to-day duties will include:

- Prepare briefs, ministerial submissions, ministerial correspondence, reports, policy papers and other products for the Minister, departmental executives, and governance forums.
- Design, develop, implement and administer the Australian Government’s commitments and programs.
- Establish and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise across the Department, with external agencies and external stakeholders to facilitate implementation and delivery our programs and policies.
- Provide advice and technical expertise in specific areas of policy or project management.
- Manage multiple tasks and the timely completion of projects.
- Interpret, draft and advise on policy and procedural directions.
- Take responsibility for managing own performance and actively contribute to achieving the goals of the section.
- Contribute to the development of team objectives, work plans and strategic planning.

- Experience in policy and program development, implementation and management.
- Well-developed research, analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly gain an understanding of complex program/systems requirements.
- The ability to identify broader factors, trends and influences that may impact outcomes/objectives.
- Strong adaptability, initiative, sound judgement and decision-making capabilities.
- The ability to develop and maintain productive, trusted relationships and work collaboratively and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team to deliver results.

**What you'll get in return**
- Competitive salary of $81,372 - $88,000 + Super (depending on experience).
- Monday - Friday role, weekends free
- Brisbane CBD based.
- Experience working in a leading Federal Government Department.
- 12 month assignment directly with our client.
