**The Role**
With a pipeline of projects throughout Queensland delivering biodiversity offsets and environmental planting projects with environmental co-benefits, the Ecologist will have opportunities to contribute to the expansion of natural capital projects throughout Queensland and elsewhere in Australia while delivering industry-leading environmental outcomes to new and existing clients.

As most projects are currently based in Queensland, an Ecologist with experience in Queensland flora and fauna species, ecosystems, guidelines and legislation is essential. Additional knowledge of and/or experience with similar work in New South Wales (including implementation of the Biodiversity Assessment Method [BAM] and BAM accreditation) would also be highly regarded.

Key responsibilities include:

- Support the Senior Ecologist in the development, management, and delivery of projects.
- Undertake a variety of regular, field-based ecological surveys, including ground-truthing of regional ecosystem mapping and BioCondition assessments, threatened species surveys (flora and fauna), as well as weed and pest animal monitoring
- Provide support to the delivery of consulting projects, including in the areas of ecological surveys, environmental offsets and carbon projects and environmental co-benefit projects.
- Maintain positive and beneficial relationships with clients, contractors, government agencies, service providers and staff.
- Contribute to technical project work, both in the field and at a desktop level.
- Manage complex datasets and the development, and implementation of, information management tools and systems.
- Provide support and manage aspects of new project development, across the company’s diverse range of environmental services.
- Undertake various research, analytical, data management and information collation tasks relating to projects.
- Contribute to various reports, written communications and other project and business development initiatives.

**About you**
CO2 Australia is looking for an energetic, diligent and passionate Ecologist to help them deliver a strong pipeline of exciting projects.

You will enjoy working in a smaller organisation and rolling up your sleeves to contribute to the team and broader organisation as required. You will also be a natural communicator and collaborator who enjoys sharing ideas and imparting knowledge. Innovative and creative thinking are also strengths of yours, as is looking for continuous improvement opportunities.

Required Skills and Proficiencies include:

- Tertiary qualifications in botany, zoology, ecology or related discipline. A post-graduate degree (Honours, Masters or PhD) in these disciplines will be highly regarded.
- Experience in ecological survey and assessment, including Regional Ecosystem verification and assessment, full floristic survey, vegetation community mapping, plant identification and BioCondition assessments.
- Experience working across Queensland in varying landscapes, including the Brigalow Belt.
- Ability to contribute to and coordinate ecological surveys and teams.
- Ability to develop and implement environmental management and monitoring programs
- Willingness to travel to carry out field assessments in remote areas and rugged environments as required.
- Experience in preparing high quality reports, including ecological, management and environmental assessment reports.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills.
- Working knowledge of relevant Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and planning policies, including those relating to environmental approvals and offsets.
- Willingness to help with business development in order to generate new business opportunities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of professionals.
- Must be licensed to drive a motor vehicle.

Whilst not essential, the following would also be highly regarded:

- Experience in environmental impact assessment.
- Experience and skills in fauna identification and ecology.
- Experience working as an ecologist or botanist in New South Wales, including implementation of the Biodiversity Assessment Method [BAM] and BAM accreditation.
