SGME is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our multidisciplinary consulting team in Brisbane. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and experienced ecological professional to lead and contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across mining, infrastructure, and land development sectors. As a Senior Ecologist, you will be responsible for managing field assessments, providing technical ecological advice, and preparing high-quality reports and management plans that support regulatory approvals and sustainable project outcomes.
In this role, you'll lead ecological components of complex projects, working closely with internal teams of scientists and engineers, as well as external stakeholders. You will be expected to mentor junior staff, contribute to business development, and ensure the delivery of practical and innovative solutions that align with client goals and environmental best practices.
About You
You are a qualified and experienced ecologist with a strong background in terrestrial ecology, biodiversity assessments, and environmental approvals. You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field, and have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience. Your expertise includes ecological survey design and execution, flora and fauna identification, habitat assessments, and an in-depth understanding of federal and state environmental legislation and policy.
You're an excellent communicator, both in the field and in the boardroom, and can translate technical findings into meaningful outcomes for clients and regulators. You have demonstrated experience leading projects, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior staff. A current driver's licence and the ability to undertake fieldwork are essential. To be considered, you must be eligible to work in Australia.
