Peer Support Worker

Dianella Cottage is a harm minimisation service that provides a drug and alcohol support Day Program for people with coexisting drug, alcohol, and mental health concerns. We offer a range of therapeutic practices including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. We aim to provide our clients with a safe and comfortable environment where skilled clinicians support them in developing their own road to recovery.

**Your Opportunity**
As a Peer Support Worker you will provide the unique and invaluable learnings of a lived experience related to substance use, treatment, and the recovery journey. You will walk alongside and support clients receiving counselling & case management support services at Dianella Cottage.

The Peer Support Worker provides peer-to-peer support, recovery mentorship and advocacy services for Dianella clients, as distinctly different to the support provided by clinicians.

Salary is $37-$40 per hour plus Superannuation and Salary Packaging options.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived experience of substance dependence and or Mental ill-health, service use and recovery.

In this position you will provide peer-to-peer advocacy and mentorship, by having supportive conversations and working on wellbeing strategies. You will share our passion and commitment to service delivery excellence, and bring the following skills and attributes:

- Ability to role-model and be relatable by appropriately sharing parts of your own journey and experiences
- Capacity to provide emotional and social support, and work with clients in building their community engagement
- Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in working considerately and non-judgmentally. with people from diverse backgrounds, experiencing complex challenges
- Self-managing and able to work autonomously within a small team environmentActive listening skills and the ability to lead and guide emotional conversations

Having completed or nearing completion of a Certificate IV in AOD, Mental Health, Peer Support or other relevant qualification would be highly regarded. You will be required to hold a clean Australian Drivers Licence.
