“How much does something really cost and does its price represent real value for money?” It's a question we ask ourselves every day and it covers all walks of life, from simply buying our weekly groceries through to selecting a tradie to build an extension. Understanding what the numbers represent helps ensure the product or service meets the requirements, is deliverable, and fit for purpose. The cheapest is not often the best value for money.
Every business sells something, whether it's a product or a service, so working out the right selling price is key And when investing in multi-billion dollar defence program, building a competitive, deliverable and profitable price is key to project and business success.
We currently have an opportunity to join our Estimating and Pricing team supporting our growing Maritime Sustainment business as an Estimating and Pricing Officer. We will teach you the skills needed to build a successful career Working on multi-million dollar proposals has its challenges but you will be part of a larger team that are here to support you with: ensuring that our cost and price estimates accurately reflect the chosen solution, that the price demonstrate value for money and finally, that our pricing approach complies with both our internal, and the customer's governance requirements.
Working with diverse bid teams, the Estimating and Pricing Function leads the effort to consolidate all the basis of estimates together. Providing the business impartial and specialist advice, ensuring the prices we release to our customer are credible, robust and as comprehensive as possible while remaining competitive and profitable for our business.

**Your new role will be accountable for**:

- Supporting significant and complex campaigns
- Working collaboratively with Bid Teams to ensure the delivery of accurate value for money proposals to the Commonwealth of Australia and other key customers in the global defence sector
- Providing advice, analysis and management of Basis of Estimates supporting the Subject Matter Experts through each stage of a bid lifecycle
- Assisting with the preparation and presentation of data for senior management to review.
- Supporting price negotiations with the Commonwealth Financial Investigation Service
- Preparing pricing data for presentation to the customer as well as anticipating challenges and clarifications on pricing submissions

**About you**:

- Strong numerical and analytical skill with an ability to identify potential issues within an estimate and develop solutions
- Ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of different teams and review audiences is critical to this role
- Ability to balance conflicting priorities coupled with an ability to support negotiations and influence internal and external stakeholders in order to generate business benefits, whilst maintaining key relationships
- In depth understanding of the professional code of ethics with an ability to solve problems and resolve complex issues with high integrity and honesty
- Proficient user of MS Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and Power point
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
