The Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. More than 40 years on, our vision remains unchanged - to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research.
The individual will undertake a variety of _in vivo _experimental therapeutics experiments; with the potential to lead to _in vitro _experiments, to investigate potential treatments for neuroblastoma, and other aggressive childhood cancers including acute lymphoblastic leukemia and sarcomas.
**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
- Work with a research team to design, conduct, analyse, interpret and present translational research experiments
- Assist with planning and coordination of research effort
- Manage and maintain experimental animals, including treatment and monitoring of their status as required
- Collate, organise and present experimental results
- Maintain laboratory records and inventories
- Ability or willingness to undertake routine laboratory work, g. DNA extraction and PCR
- Responsible for the maintenance of research records and presenting data
- Responsible for making up required chemical solutions
- Produce, or contribute to high quality publications and research funding submissions
- Contribute to innovations and refinements to experimental approaches and assist in establishing new techniques
- Present research data at conferences and seminars
**Qualifications, experience, and skills required**:
- Bachelor of Science Honours in a relevant scientific field or Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent experience
- 0-5 years’ research experience
- Previous experience working in an animal research laboratory and small animal handling (including treatment routes: intraperitoneal, intravenous, oral gavage skill)
- Experience with PC2 and WHS standards and behaviour
- Demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments independently as well as in a team environment
- High level technical, computer and analytical skills
- Demonstrated commitment to conducting experiments involving humans, animals & GMO’s under strict ethical and regulatory guidelines
- Demonstrated commitment to OGTR and other regulatory requirements
- Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and respect for others
- An interest in developing techniques and using the latest technology in research projects
- Highly developed interpersonal skills
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
