**About Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA)**

VARA operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations throughout regional Western Australia. VARA continued to operate through COVID-19 and beyond to support our major clients in the mining industry and the future is exciting and prosperous.

**Who we’re looking for**:
Due to an internal promotion we are recruiting for a Senior Safety role. Reporting to the Executive General Manager of VARA, we are looking for an exceptional leader passionate about safety who will develop and carry the VARA safety strategy and work with the senior leadership team drive improvements in safety culture. You will be a modern leader with a proven track record in driving transformational and behavioural change, fostering a learning and developing culture and collaborating across the business to drive improvements in the way we work.

**What you’ll be doing**:
The Head of Safety Systems is responsible for designing, implementing and ongoing improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) of Virgin Australia Regional Airlines. This includes:

- Providing strategic direction for safety promotion, training and communication across Virgin Australia Regional Airlines to align with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practice
- Deliver outstanding people leadership to the business and to the VARA Safety Team
- Lead a cross functional team covering safety governance, risk management, assurance, training & promotion, Human Factors, Fatigue, DAMP, Emergency Response & Workplace Health & Safety.
- Leading safety and operations support oversight for VARA and the VARA Engineering Divisions.
- Work collaboratively with the Group Safety Systems team to plan and deliver safety strategy for VARA
- Partner with the Senior Leadership team to drive continuous improvement across the organisations in safety
- Sponsoring key safety initiatives and projects, leading risk and change promotions and assurance activities
- Holding the CASR Part 119 and 142 Safety responsibilities.

**You’ll be great in this role if you**:

- Have exceptional Leadership experience leading a department with multiple teams, specialists and mangers
- Have high levels of emotional intelligence and capable of collaborating at a senior level to drive transformational change
- Have comprehensive experience in mentoring and developing people
- Significant senior management experience within Airline operations, Safety Management, Flight Operations, Engineering or Airport Operations
- Experience in the management and delivery of processes and structures relating to Air Operators Certificates
- Experience co-ordinating and collaborating with CASA & other regulatory agencies
- Previously held or capable of being the CASA approved Safety Manager for the Part 142 and 119.
- Experience in oversighting the Safety Assurance Audit Program and Flight Data Program
- Comprehensive understanding of compliance in a highly regulated environment
