Award-winning, technology-led design consultancy, based in Melbourne is looking for a mid-level or senior designer to lead a design team of five, comprising Industrial Design, Graphic Design and UI/UX Designers. The Design Lead will mentor and challenge the team to be innovative and creative and work collaboratively on the development of cutting-edge technologies for the domestic and professional consumer markets.

**Role and **Responsibilities**
The Design Lead is a 'hands on' role that provides leadership to a team of designers. You will provide deep technical expertise in all aspects of the design process, from research and ideation to creative conceptualisation and design of products for manufacture. As Design Lead, you will focus on solving complex design problems and work closely and inclusively with a broad range of stakeholders. Particular emphasis is placed on ergonomic (human) factors, marketing considerations and manufacturability and preparing designs and specifications of products for mass or batch production. You will lead stand ups and instil some agile methodology into the team.
- Provide leadership, support and guidance to the design team
- Engage in and contribute to product and design discussions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create client focused designs
- Able to troubleshoot and solve complex design problems
- Create design briefs based on project proposals and client feedback
- Communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders regarding client expectations
- Present and promote design solutions
- Interpret client briefs and provide creative solutions that deliver high quality products
- Adhere to tight deadlines and manage budget constraints
- Create storyboards and mock-ups
- Review feedback from clients and amend accordingly
- Fully participate in, lead and support a scrum-based, agile development team
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design standards, industry trends, emerging best practices
- Communicate, support and deliver business initiatives and business targets
- Clearly present ideas to the senior management team and clients
- Mentor and coach members of the design team
- Drive a best practices and standards approach to the continuous improvement of products, processes and tools
- Ensure that tasks are completed on time and to quality standards
**Your Skills and Experience**
- Master's or Bachelor's in Design or relevant field (industrial design, product design)
- Deep technical expertise in design
- Understanding of project delivery practices
- Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture
- Familiarity with user journey maps and user flow diagrams
- Strong design skills with a proven track record of success
- Applied knowledge of engineering for mobile electronic devices
- Sketching (freehand and/or digital)
- The ability to mentor and support others
- Have a minimum of 5 years' experience as a Design Lead or senior designer with team lead responsibility preferably in the electronics industry
- Experience in UI/UX design
- Working in an Agile environment and using project management tools like Jira or Wrike
- Background in project management and research
- CAD design and prototyping/3D printing experience
- DFM experience
