About SMHRU
The new SMHRU unit offers mental health rehabilitation services for individuals needing extended inpatient care in a secure environment. Our focus is on autonomy, self-determination, and working collaboratively towards independent living. All consumers are over 18 years of age.

About Your New Role
Are you passionate about advocating for mental health services and promoting respectful inclusion? A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for a Carer Peer Worker to join our team. Our new facility aims to provide world-class, compassionate, person-centered mental health care that supports the recovery of consumers, families, and carers.
Key Responsibilities
- Draw on knowledge and expertise gained through reflection on own lived experience
- Positively promote individual and family recovery and be open to sharing personal lived experience
- Commit to working in an evidence-based, best practice manner by participating in relevant alcohol and drug training
- Provide direct carer peer support to carers, families and significant others, engaging in individual and group peer support activities

**Requirements**:

- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with lived experience of mental illness, service use and recovery (Identifying as a consumer, carer, family member or significant other)
- While not mandatory, a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and similar qualifications or higher would be well regarded
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent full time
- Base salary ranging from $76 963 - 85 591 per annum
