**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it,
- protect the Antarctic environment,
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system,
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

Antarctic Operations and Safety Branch plan, coordinate, facilitate and deliver operations for the Australian Antarctic Program by safely resupplying and sustaining the Antarctic Stations and building operational capacity to deliver future Antarctic projects.

The Shipping Section is a key element of the branch and is responsible for the coordination, management and operational support of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic maritime logistics. The Planning and Operations Team, based within the Shipping Section, is responsible for the effective delivery of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic maritime operations, including marine science activities within the Australian Antarctic Program, whilst also co-ordinating the capabilities and interfaces used in support of the AADs maritime operations.

**The Job**
Key duties will include, but are not limited to:

- contribute to the section’s coordination and support of AAP operations including:

- support the operational planning and implementation of the AAD’s annual shipping program,
- coordinate the operationalisation of shipping interface capabilities in support of the AAD’s annual shipping program,
- plan, implement and administer vessel port calls, including liaison with external agencies, contractors and stakeholders,
- in consultation with ship operators and stevedores, co-ordinate safe and efficient loading and discharge of cargo and support equipment to AAD vessels,
- gathering and analysing information from diverse sources to develop and review key operational documentation which includes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), business continuity plans and training manuals,
- in consultation with relevant Sections of the AAD, ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements in relation to cargo handling equipment and the import and export of cargo to and from Australia via sea is maintained,
- undertake procurement and finance activities for the Planning and Operations team,
- the development, and where required delivery of voyage management and voyage support team briefing and training programs,
- assist in the transition, planning and implementation processes associated with the introduction into service of the AAD’s new icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina, and any other vessels the AAD may charter.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- Proven experience in shore side maritime logistics.
- Proven experience in procurement, financial management and records management.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of briefing and training programs.
- Demonstrated stakeholder liaison experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the production of procedures and operating instructions.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Demonstrated ability to support planning and development of practical and innovative shipping and maritime logistics capabilities and solutions.
- Strong communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and liaise extensively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to analyse and interpret procedural, regulatory and legislative documentation to facilitate production of procedural documentation and training programs.
- Be flexible and thrive in uncertainty whilst having the ability to adapt and refocus in response to changing priorities given maritime operations has a high degree of unpredictability.
