**Job: 2025-951332 | Part Time (3 days a week) | Permanent | Parramatta, NSW**

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

**What will you do?**

In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Care & Protection/Family Law Practice, assisting in delivering legal support services to Aboriginal clients by researching legal matters, organising client files, inputting data, handling administrative duties, and liaising with professionals.

Each day, you can expect to:

- Coordinating a high level of paralegal support for solicitors in Care and Protection / Family Law, and associated matters.
- Assist solicitors at Court in appropriate cases, including note taking.
- Obtain supporting documentation and draft documents required by solicitors for the preparation of hearings in accordance with internal practice standards.
- Assist in researching matters of law or undertaking case reviews for solicitors, as required.
- Assist in client interviews, and drafting of Applications, Affidavits, and other court documents, as and where required.
- Liaise with Government and non-Government agencies, welfare agencies, Courts, and other sections of the legal community in relation to clients of the Service.

**Who are we looking for?**

You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate:

- Formal paralegal qualifications, or currently undertaking a Law Degree.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved in the care and protection system.
- In-depth knowledge of support and referral services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients involved in the Care and Protection and/or Family Law system.
- Excellent research and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with mínimal supervision and a willingness to complete administrative tasks.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Suite computer skills, video-conferencing software.
