**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The Division contributes to Australia’s national Antarctic interests through science, environmental management and international engagement, including delivering Australia’s scientific research and operations in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. It does this by delivering the Australian Antarctic Strategy and 20 year Action Plan and the following priorities:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic, and national significance

To achieve these outcomes the Division leads, coordinates and delivers Australian Antarctic Program, providing policy, science, operational and support functions for 4 permanent research stations in Antarctica and on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island. We provide innovative and expert advice to the Australian Government grounded in evidence and science. We work collaboratively and in partnership with First Nations Peoples, communities, regions, industry, states and territories, other government departments and international partners to achieve our outcomes.

The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees our operations in Antarctica - supporting people in our year round research stations and Remote field bases. The branch oversees air and sea transport (and the contract to manage Australia’s icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina) to get expeditioners south and enable them to travel around Antarctica.

We have staff with diverse skills, located primarily in Tasmania, in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island. We are committed to keep our people safe and continue to deliver on the outcomes of the Independent Review of Workplace Culture and Change at the Australian Antarctic Division. We are updating our systems, processes and procedures to ensure that they support a positive culture and are fit for purpose.

**The Job**
As the Branch Head for the Operations and Logistics Branch, you will work as part of the Antarctic Division’s executive team to advance Australia’s national Antarctic interests through the Antarctic Treaty system. You will be responsible for:

- Leading in a manner the consistent with the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours (be Dynamic, be Respectful, have Integrity, Value others and Empower people).
- Leading the delivery of complex and safe operations in support of the Australian Antarctic Program.
- Managing a large budget, assets, projects and procurements for the branch.
- Managing a diverse and geographically remote and disperse workforce to be inclusive, respectful and positive.
- Working across Government, the Antarctic Science community and Antarctic Programs in other countries to deliver strong outcomes for the program.
- Promoting a high-performance culture, whilst focusing on continuous improvement of employee and organisational performance and continuous communication.
- Promoting integrity by displaying a high level of ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, APS Values and APS Employment Principles.

**What we are looking for**
To be successful for this role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES band 1 level, and you will have the following:

**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** - This position requires a **Negative Vetting Level 2** security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level for this role.
