The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a multi-campus school operating inside the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. Established in 2001 it is a purpose built, state-of-the-art school which reflects the Queensland Government's vision of supporting and promoting the well-being and capacity of young people in detention.
Our staff are passionate about helping improve our students' knowledge, skills, and abilities, many of whom have had disrupted or negative schooling experiences. We seek to educate the whole person by providing growth, development, and learning opportunities to prepare young people for a balanced, worthwhile future.In order to maintain engagement of students across the year and address learning gaps, funding is approved for education delivery over 48 weeks of the year. This brings Queensland into alignment with youth detention schools in other States and Territories across Australia. The employment entitlements for staff will remain unchanged, providing an exciting opportunity for some flexible work agreements. Through negotiation with the Principal, the successful applicant will determine whether a regular or alternative school holiday model is accessed.About the Role
- Ensure all participants are engaged in activities that focus on training, employment or personal development; and
- Build relationships and network with employers, stakeholders, training providers and community links
The ideal applicant will focus on fundamental skill building alongside teaching solid self-expression techniques. Desirable criteria:
- Demonstrated relevant industry experience and currency
- Experience with competency-based training in foundation skills and pre-employment training
