
Clinical Assistant

Clinical Assistants are a part of a specialised team which is highly motivated, dynamic and committed to excellent client service and to the high-quality care of Queensland Health patients.
**Your key responsibilities**:
- Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per documented protocols
- Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collecting techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures.
- Liaise with patients, medical and non-medical staff to ensure correct collection of specimens and efficient operation of the Specimen Collection Department.
- Perform operational duties which include providing support for the collection of sweat tests, dynamic tests, restocking pathology consumables, maintaining clean work areas and assisting where the Collection Service Manager or the Supervisor directs.
- Maintain professional attitude and behaviour when dealing with staff and clients.
- Participate in relevant on-going education and assist in staff training.
- Work with integrity, comply with expected ethical and behavioural standards, respect patient's confidentiality and know the importance of patient information.
- Comply with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.
**Qualifications, registrations and other requirements**:
- Certificate III or IV in Pathology Specimen Collection would be highly regarded.
- In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24-hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
- It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Covid-19, Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
