Situated in the near-city suburb of Cannon Hill, the school was built on land within the country of the Yuggera & Turrbal people, on a site that was described by a 1910 survey as being thick with forest.
Cannon Hill State School opened on August 16, 1915, with 253 students and seven staff members. At the time it was built, it was considered the most advanced architectural design of its time. That design still provides a beautiful and functional learning environment which has been modified to provide 21st Century learning spaces to accommodate contemporary approaches to teaching and learning.
Years 5 and 6 students engage with their individual laptops for learning both at school and at home.
