Berwick Primary School is a large school that has a consistent enrolment of 950 students. The school was established in 1857 and relocated to the current site in October 2003. The school is located in the south-eastern suburbs.
Our committed and knowledgeable team of teachers and support staff combines youth with experience and offers a variety of skills and capabilities that complement the school¿s broad curriculum and extra-curricular programs.
Engagement and wellbeing are key to success at school, and we work to positively influence students so that they are resilient and develop a desire to learn and achieve personal success across a wide range of areas whilst being mindful of supporting their social and emotional wellbeing.
Many varied opportunities are available to students in the areas of the arts, physical education and information and communication technology. A 1:1 iPad program operates in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 with class sets in the younger year levels and specialist areas. This technology has facilitated deeper learning in many curriculum areas. There are also many opportunities for students to participate in sporting activities as well as participation in the school aerobics and Human Powered Vehicle programs. Productions, choirs, bands and participation in Wakakirri form part of our arts program. At Berwick Primary School all students learn Spanish. We believe that languages play an important role in developing our students¿ capability to understand themselves in relation to others.
The school is an authorised World School in the International Baccalaureate¿s Primary Years Programme. We believe that it is our role to prepare our students to be active citizens of the global world that is the 21st century. Students need to confront life and all of the changes that it brings. Our teachers empower their students to develop the skills and attitudes that will meet the needs of the future. Our curriculum reflects this and our units of inquiry are planned to be globally significant. Each individual child is at the centre of our planning for learning and we encourage our students to be prepared to take a risk and challenge themselves with their learning. **Selection Criteria**:
**SC1** Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated experience in responding to student learning needs.
**SC2** Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
**SC3** Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning. Demonstrated experience in using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
**SC4** Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.
**SC5** Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
**Role**:
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges
- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
