At Lives Lived Well, we’ve been treating and supporting people whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drugs for over 50 years. We also support people with mental health and gambling concerns and those transitioning from correctional centres. We’re growing fast and building a reputation as a trusted, innovative provider, focused on clinical excellenceand we’d love you to be part of it.
If you have compassion, the ability to work without judgment and share our belief in recovery, then join us and open up your career in human services.
Are you ready to join us and help make a difference where it matters most?
Our Residential Treatment Program Wunya based at Caboolture delivers a comprehensive residential rehabilitation treatment program for people who are experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs. The residential rehabilitation program is based on the principle that a residential setting free of alcohol and non-prescribed drugs, provides an appropriate place in which to address the underlying causes of substance use.
**Your opportunity**
Working as a Casual Support Worker at our Wunya House residential alcohol and drug treatment centre, you’ll provide support and supervision to clients undertaking the six-week treatment program.
**What does this mean?**
Well, you’ll help to keep our clients emotionally safe while supporting and monitoring activities of the program. You’ll assist with medications, support guided meditations, and provide general help and support to clients during the evening, should they need it.
There is no typical day as a support worker at Wunya. You could find yourself having a game of pool and relaxing with the residents, equally you could find yourself spending time with someone who is feeling really low and struggling to cope with the demands of rehab. As a support workers, you’ll be required to cover shifts for all parts of the day, evenings and weekends. The role may also provide ‘sleep over’ cover to the site. Sometimes you may be asked to cover at short notice, so flexibility and team work is essential. All while being supported and guided by a team of humble humans who really care.
**You’ll know that you’re leaving a positive wake when**:
- You’re able to adapt and move with the requirements of our residents, this could be taking people to appointments, leading some activities and helping out our clinicians.
- You’re able to build positive relationships with your clients, enabling them to stick to the program and make positive change in their lives.
- You’re able to navigate the challenges of new situations, creating solutions and adapting on the spot. This may include dealing with a clash between residents or provide comfort to someone who is struggling.
**What you’ll bring**
As this is a casual role, we can’t always guarantee the number of shifts you might get, so you’ll need to be comfortable being called in as needed.
Residential work is not for everyone, it can be demanding, intense and hard work at times. Our residents come from all walks of life, bringing a variety of experiences and backgrounds, some of which may be confronting.
At LLW you are never far from support, from your colleagues and line manger, all the way through to the executive and the after hours on call there is always someone available to support you. LLW has a strong capability team, so training resources and opportunity to develop your skills are an integral part of who we are and how we support you.
In terms of the role itself, it’s not as much about the technical expertise nor the number of degrees you have, it’s about who you are as a person - you may be a new grad, looking for a career change, or may have lived experience, and what you will bring to the role and the team:
- You’ll need to know how to set and maintain good boundaries - with clients, colleagues and yourself. What we do isn’t always easy, so taking care of yourself is most important
- You’ll be comfortable working to a structure, but have the capacity to be flexible and navigate the unexpected.
- You’ll be able to think on your feet, problem solve and handle pressure.
- You’ll have a genuine desire to support people in making a positive difference to their lives and empathy, warmth and compassion are important qualities in this role.
- You’ll be reliable, resilient, persistent and non-judgmental.
And importantly, you’ll live and breathe our values, which means:
- You are humble, human and full of hope.
- You show up and share.
- You ask: Why not? And what’s next?
- You leave a positive wake.
We believe that, through these values, we do our best work - for each other, for clients, and for the communities we work in. And it’s a promise we make to you ab
