The Basin Primary School, situated in the City of Knox is located at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges and was established in 1880. Originally a one teacher rural school, its present enrolment is 616 (27 Grades) and has been slowly increasing over the last few years due to an improved socio economic area; our caring, welcoming and supportive culture; our reputation; amazing teachers, excellent Student, Parent and Student survey data over a long time and very good Naplan trend data.

Our highly professional and dedicated teachers have designed a curriculum to maximise opportunities for all students to experience learning success with a strong focus on building literacy and numeracy skills as well as catering for a range of student abilities and interests. We have five excellent Specialist programs delivered by amazing teachers in Physical Education & Sport, Visual Arts, Music & Performing Arts, Science and German.

In July 2018 a $5.8 million major upgrade was completed with many classrooms refurbished, a new admin building and a competition sized basketball stadium built. In late December 2019 we received $1.8 million grant for the upgrade of our oval and connecting grounds, the senior playground and carpark asphalting.

English and Maths consultants have worked beside our classroom staff each year building the knowledge and teaching strategies of our teachers. At each level Expert teachers work alongside youger staff members as mentors sharing their expertise. A peer coaching program was established where teachers learn from each other.

In the area of Student Support the school complements the range of early intervention programs and services we offer including a Reading Lab along with visiting DET personnel in the areas of Speech Therapy, a Guidance Officer and our highly effective Chaplaincy Program.
