With 12 months, and our first “Covid free” summer under our belt, an exciting opportunity exists at one of Rye’s newest and funkiest beach-side pizza bars. We’re looking for someone with an affinity to the hospitality industry to lead a team of passionate young guns in one of the most stunning locations on the Mornington Peninsula.
You
You’re a true senior leader. You’re someone who drives strategy, team stability, customer experience, profit, moral, and everything in between. You’re energetic, you bring a vibe. You understand a small business needs hands-on leadership, but you perfectly balance your time working on and working in the business. You’re comfortable managing COGS and analysing, reporting on and working to adjust where necessary. You’re comfortable managing large, casual teams and relish the opportunity to upskill new and up and coming team members.
Your week
Reporting to the Director, your number one priority is the successful day-to-day running of the venue, supported by the Head Chef and Venue Supervisor, and between 10-20 casual team members, depending on the season, lovingly referred to as “Papi’s people”.
Your team will be your biggest challenge, but you already know this. The current jobs market means our employment offering needs to be strong, and your training and development skills will add to the list of Papi’s people benefits.
Rye is a seasonal town, so customer experience and community relations is your bread and butter. Most of your time is spent in service, supporting your team through continuous training and development, and being the face of the business. You’ll quickly build relationships with locals and embed yourself as an active member of the Rye community.
Your organisational skills will be paramount, juggling rostering and managing your team, venue presentation and upkeep, staying across financials and making moves to adjust where necessary.

Papi’s was built by a dynamic team of mates (two couples) with a collective 70+ years of experience working across all facets of the industry. Moving from Melbourne to the Peninsula in 2020, we had a clear vision - a casual beachside spot with great food and booze - somewhere we want to frequent
We soft launched on new years eve 2021 with covid still peaking, one manager, no chef, no casual staff and 4 pizzas on the menu. Since then, we’ve built a profitable business with a great team of hard working locals of all ages and experience levels.
Sitting opposite the beach on the main strip, and no longer the ‘new kid on the block’, we’ve entrenched ourselves in our iconic corner spot. Papi’s is a favourite amongst locals and weekenders alike.
We know there’s still a lot in the tank, and Papi’s still has room to grow. We’re looking for the person to make that happen - with the enthusiasm to accept the challenge and drive Papi’s to the next level. We want to meet you.
