**About the role**
The Engineering Internships provide an opportunity to gain practical work experience whilst undertaking your university course work. The roles will be part time, 3 days per week with flexibility. Positions will commence mid April for 6 months.

The role contributes to the Engineering Services Department’s responsibility to effectively and sustainably manage Council’s infrastructure assets, specifically related to road, footpath, bridge, drainage and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) assets through the timely production of competent and innovative solutions to deliver Council’s Transport and Stormwater services and issues raised by the community.

Key responsibilities include:

- Undertake various engineering related projects involving investigation, research, generation and assessment of solutions and production of reports recommending appropriate courses of action.
- Undertake engineering investigations and problem solving in relation to municipal civil infrastructure specific to Transport and Stormwater.
- Receive, investigate, and liaise with members of the community to resolve requests relating to drainage, road and traffic infrastructure.
- Prepare survey and design briefs to initiate the implementation of works to resolve road, footpath, bridge, drainage, Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and traffic management issues.
- Prepare cost estimates and concise clear works instructions relating to resolution of issues.
- Provide timely and accurate advice including letters and reports to senior staff, internal and external customers.
- Supervision of contractors engaged in construction of works and undertaking general engineering studies and investigations.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will be currently enrolled and undertaking an Engineering Degree, and have completed at least your first year.

Essential Experience:

- Understanding of Municipal Civil Engineering and standards.
- Ability to set priorities and plan/organise work allocated.
- Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with professional engineers and people of similar disciplines in the administration of defined activities.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a professional team.
- Oral and written communication skills to achieve objectives of this position.
- Demonstrated analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of the legislative requirements relating to construction activities, in particular OH&S.
- Awareness of relevant legislation (the Local Government Act).
- Commitment to adhering to the Council Code of Conduct, values and all applicable policies and procedures.
