**About the department**:
Ward 6 West is the neurosurgery and vascular surgery ward located on level 6 of the Austin Tower. There is also a comprehensive vascular laboratory co-located on 6 North.Located primarily at the Austin Hospital, the Unit is committed to the provision of high-quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. Also provided is a consultative service for other Units within Austin Health. The outpatient clinic runs weekly at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campus of Austin Health.The Vascular Surgery Unit, as part of the Cancer and Neurosciences Division, is responsible for the provision of services within the specialty to patients across Austin Health. The Head of Unit is A/Prof Jason Chuen. It provides a wide spectrum of services from outpatient and emergency management, vascular diagnostics, inpatient management, open and endovascular surgery as required with active teaching and research programs.
**About the role**:
There are a number of surgical sessions and outpatient sessions per week, pre-admission clinics are included in the outpatients sessions for some units.
**Clinical Care**
- Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, residet, nuesing and other staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care accross the contnuum.
- Attend and facilitate operating sessions as directed
- Provide consultive service to other Ubnits as required
- Attend to all inpatient referrals within 12 hours
- Attend emergency referrals as required
- Participate in the on-call roster
- Perform after hours work and night duty as required
- Cover other surgical units as requested by hospital
- participate in Unit meetings and Clinical sessions
- Particaipate in the auditing and review of clinicl practices to inprove clinical outcomes
- Maintain data entry into the Australasian Vascular Audit
- Attendance at dividion of Surgery audit is compulsory and attandance at Durgical Grand Rounds is expected
- Assist with duties within the vascular Laboratory including triage, reporting and diagnostic duties as directed
**Teaching and training**
- Participate in ongoing medical education and professional development
- Participate in registrar presentations, audits and medical students teaching.
- Assist with Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching of medical and other students
- Maintain a personal procedural log book
**Research & Education**
- Support is available for conferences and educational sessions
- Registrar-led research is encouraged
- Participate in departmental research activities as directed
**Other**
- Assist the Head of Unit in administrative duties as required.
- Assist in making a safe working environment by reporting any incidents of unsafe work practices, sites or equipment and assist in the resolution of these issues.
- Participate in Austin Health performance appraisal program as required.
- Undertake not to reveal to any person or entity any confidential information relating to patients and employees, policies, processes and dealings and not to make public statements relating to the affairs of Austin Health without prior authority of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Participate in the emergency incident response activities, as defined within the Emergency Response Manual, as and when required, at the direction of management
