To continue our success, we are looking to fill the position of **Marine Environmental Consultant** who is responsible for assessing and managing the environmental impact of human activities on marine ecosystems. They work to ensure that these activities are conducted in a manner that minimises harm to marine life and preserves the health and integrity of the marine environment.
**In this role, you will have the opportunity to**:
- Gather and analyse data related to marine ecosystems, including water quality, biodiversity, and ecological surveys.
- Assess the potential environmental impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems, evaluate proposed projects or activities, such as coastal developments, offshore energy installations, or fisheries management, to determine their ecological consequences and suggest mitigation measures.
- Stay up to date with marine science regulations and policies and provide guidance to clients on compliance issues with marine conservation and management.
- Prepare technical reports, scientific papers, and presentations summarizing their findings and recommendations. These documents are essential for communicating scientific information to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
- Engage in educational and outreach activities to raise awareness about marine conservation and sustainable practices, develop educational materials and deliver presentations.
***What you bring to the team**:
- A minimum requirement is a bachelor's degree in marine science, oceanography, marine biology, or a related field. Higher qualifications, such as a master's or Ph.D.
- A strong understanding of marine ecosystems, including marine biology, oceanography, coastal processes, and marine conservation, is essential. Knowledge of specific habitats, such as coral reefs, estuaries, or deep-sea environments, may be advantageous.
- Practical experience in conducting fieldwork and data collection in marine environments is valuable. This includes proficiency in operating scientific instruments, sampling techniques, and handling marine organisms.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation is crucial. Skills in statistical analysis, data visualisation, and the use of software and tools for analysing marine data sets (e.g., R, MATLAB, GIS) are desirable.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital and be able to convey complex scientific concepts and findings to clients and stakeholders, in a clear and understandable manner.
- Consultants often oversee projects, so having project management skills, including planning, organization, and time management, is beneficial.
- The ability to work independently and meet project deadlines is crucial.
