**ROLE DESCRIPTION: SPECIALIST EDUCATOR**

If you are passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and their families in a supported and collaborative role in the area of education and/or allied health, then this may be the role for you. The Learning Toolbox is seeking a Special Educator, Teacher or Developmental Educator with a special interest in assessing and supporting children with learning difficulties and special needs. We offer a friendly and supportive team environment, where staff are encouraged to develop and follow their interests and passions.

The Learning Toolbox is located in Bankstown. The Learning Toolbox offers a range of quality services to pre-school and school aged children, including Multisensory Learning, Educational Therapy and Early Intervention services.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Education or a related field.
- Training in an Evidence based Methodology to support children’s learning such as Multisensory Learning (MSL), Sounds Write, Mini/MultiLit.
- Experience in providing intervention or learning support to children with learning difficulties
- Current Working with Children Check
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written language skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Commitment to professional development
- Available to work a minimum of two afternoons

DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Postgraduate degree in Special or Inclusive Education, Developmental Education or Disability
- Registration as a teacher with the Institute of Teaching or as a Special Educator with the institute of Special Educators, or as. Developmental educator with DEAI
- Knowledge of assessment and evidence-based treatment of Specific Learning Disorders, including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia
- Experience in working with children with a range of special needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety
- Experience in using standardised assessments
- Proficient technology skills
- Experience in delivering educational programs through online technology, such as Zoom
- Experience with Direct instruction programs

THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

- Develop and deliver literacy and numeracy intervention programs to children that are behind in their reading, spelling, writing and/or Mathematics skills.
- Use a range of evidence-based programs and methods.
- Conduct and score a range of standardised and diagnostic one to one assessments.
- Create goals for each client and regularly revise and evaluate these.
- Monitor client’s progress through regular review of goals and standardised assessment.
- Liaise with parents to provide feedback regarding the students’ progress.
- As required, liaise with other professionals and school staff working with each student to communicate goals and strategies of the program.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Participate in regular professional development opportunities to keep up with current developments in the field of learning difficulties.
- Ensure compliance with our duty of care to clients.
- Ensure services meet quality service standards, and contract agreements.
