The Role
You will be focused on the delivery of energy markets research and energy markets modelling to support the sustainability and climate change group. This will be for consulting engagements across a diverse range of clients including government, power generation, retail, transmission & distribution, transport, defence, water, resources, telecommunications, financiers and more. Our focus in energy markets is to:
- Maintain and update energy market models that we use to support our clients
- Assist clients in understanding energy markets, the risks and opportunities
- Assessment of generation, retail, network and energy storage investments
- Transaction advisory and due diligence
- Regulatory and policy technical reviews
- Techno-commercial advisory centred on current and emerging energy systems
You will need to be able to consider complex problems from the perspectives of our clients and their customers to deliver practical solutions that balance their needs relating to performance, sustainability, and commerciality.
The technical focus of our work spans the following technologies and more:
- Large scale power generation (hydro, solar, onshore & offshore wind, energy storage)
- Industry decarbonisation strategies
- Electric vehicle readiness strategies policies and plans
- Microgrids & Distributed Energy Resources concepts for precincts and network businesses
- Renewable Energy Zones across the Australian National Electricity Market and New Zealand
- Green hydrogen, future fuels, and clean manufacturing energy supply concepts
- Transmission and distribution networks
You will be involved in winning, managing, and delivering fast paced and impactful consulting engagements where you will need to interact with clients, guide them through problem definition and mobilise multi-disciplinary Aurecon teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions. You may be involved in small, fast paced engagements or integrate into teams for larger projects.
What we are looking for:
We know the work we do is vital in assisting our world’s economic development and, it’s the technical expertise and the depth of knowledge of our people that really sets us apart. Here are the key things you will need to have to ‘bring ideas to life’.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, science, commerce/economics, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated relevant experience in power generation, electricity retailing, or networks
- Exceptional communication, presentation, team working and report writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail, skilled at analysis and reporting
- High degree of IT literacy
- Project management experience
- Broader professional or consulting experience
Technical experience in the following areas would be viewed favourably:
- Power generation and storage technologies, including wind, solar, thermal, batteries and pumped hydro
- Decarbonisation and net-zero emissions roadmaps and plans
- IT skills utilising large databases and be able to write code such as VBA, Python periodically
- Feasibility studies and concept design
- Electricity network planning, design, maintenance, and operation
- Energy market operations
- Emerging energy technology e.g.: green hydrogen, Virtual Power Plants, electric vehicles etc
- Risk analysis
