**Victoria Police** **Forensic Services Department** **Lab Operations - Biometric Services** **Biological Sciences Group** **Case Reporting Unit 1** **FO-2 ongoing Forensic Officer role available** **About the Role** The function of the Case Reporting Unit (CRU) is: - To examine and report on analysis of crime exhibits for biological material - To attend crime scenes - To provide expert evidence in court. - To participate in activities around the operation of the National Criminal Investigation DNA Database (NCIDD) and the NCIDD-Integrated Forensic Analysis (NIFA) database. Note: based on business need, this role may include transfer for defined periods to other work units within BSG. **Key Accountabilities include**: - Perform technical support duties to progress the flow of casework, be aware of casework management criteria, prioritise casework in a team environment. - Be responsible for providing both a timely and quality forensic service in a multi-skilled environment and provide statistics to senior management. - Maintain equipment, instruments, laboratory space and document performance with respect to quality control criteria. - Respond to customer enquiries and maintain computerised and administrative records. - Participate in the services supplied within the technical support area. - Participate in accreditation duties and meet obligations as required. - As part of a team, assist in relevant research and development projects, which improve and expand Group methodology as part of the Department's standing as a national and internationally recognised "centre of excellence" as required. - Assist in the delivery of training. - Support other work units within the BSG - Present evidence in Courts of law of a factual nature, in an impartial and concise manner as required. - Maintain appropriate knowledge of Victoria Police and Department policies, procedures and legislation**.** **Skills & Experience** - Ability to undertake scientific/technical examinations following established procedures. - Experience with the operation and maintenance of relevant scientific instrumentation. - Proven administrative skills including the maintenance of detailed and accurate records. - Well-developed oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on the ability to impart specialist knowledge and advice to internal and external stakeholders. - Ability to work autonomously and/or in a team environment and to manage workloads in order to meet defined/agreed targets and deadlines. - Prepare reports and provide results on technical matters relevant to own work area. - An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs. - A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values. **Requirements and relevant information**: - Ongoing FO-2 position available. - Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod. - Bachelor of Science Degree, preferably with a major in Molecular Biology and/or Genetics or equivalent industry experience. - Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa. - We expect our people to foster a safe and inclusive environment where their behaviour and attitude reflects, builds upon and promotes a positive and collaborative workplace that respects the culture and values of Victoria Police. **How to apply**: - **Resume**: **Applications close midnight, Thursday 29th May 2025.** Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace and support flexible working arrangements. **About Us**: Victoria Police has a dedicated workforce of more than 22,000 employees consisting of police, protective services officers, police custody officers, and public service staff.
