**Position Information**:
Maitland High School is the second oldest state high school in NSW. Our school motto, “En Avant” (Go Forward) encapsulates the school’s aim to develop a sense of future: of capacity, achievement and success for all students.
Maitland High School is an inclusive and proudly comprehensive high school serving a diverse community. We are dedicated to working in partnership with our students and community to create a culture of high expectations where all students feel empowered to strive for their best. Located in the Lower Hunter region, Maitland High School has a Specialist Support Unit which has eight classes. The student population of 988. While 6% of our students identify as having a non-English speaking background, only 2% require some level of EAL/D (English an additional language or dialect) support. 17% of students identify as having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives to evolve a school culture of high expectations in a high support environment to maximise opportunities and success for all students moving towards successful HSC achievement and post-school outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead school-based initiatives to improve student literacy and numeracy outcomes based on explicit teaching practice and the use of student performance data to inform teaching & learning programs.
- Demonstrated ability to implement DoE policies and develop school procedures to support Executive staff to improve faculty performance and student management and wellbeing.
- Capacity and expertise to improve home, school and community partnerships to increase retention and HSC attainment for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
- Proven ability to effectively manage student behaviour in a dynamic and complex educational setting where proactive planning, responsiveness and adaptability are essential to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
