**Who we are**

The International Environment, Reef and Ocean Division leads Australia’s engagement on a range of international agreements and treaties protecting different aspects of the environment, provides strategic oversight on a range of Pacific environment programs and coordinates a whole of department strategy for international environment issues. The division contributes to the protection and sustainable management of Australia’s wildlife, oceans, marine and migratory species and the Great Barrier Reef. The division comprises the Ocean and Wildlife Branch, International Environment Branch and Great Barrier Reef Branch.

The Ocean and Wildlife Branch is responsible for the conservation, protection and sustainable management of the environment. The branch represents Australia’s international wildlife trade interests under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

We’re leading delivery of Australia’s Sustainable Ocean Plan and providing a focal point for domestic ocean matters in the department. We also manage Australia’s implementation of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species - Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks.

The section also contributes to regulatory and legislative reforms for wildlife trade. As part of Australia’s Scientific Authority for CITES, we develop Australia’s position on wildlife trade matters to be represented internationally.

**The job**
- Undertake a range of moderately complex regulatory and administrative tasks to support wildlife trade, under limited supervision.
- Accountable for organising your workflow and making independent decisions relating to your responsibilities.
- Provide advice to a wide variety of customers and external stakeholders.
- Assess domestic and international zoo facilities.
- Assess commercial wildlife trade programs for terrestrial and aquatic species.
- Identify and work on regulatory reform opportunities.
- Analyse scientific information to support the sustainable management and/or husbandry of native and CITES-listed species.
- Prepare clear and concise written material including briefs and correspondence.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues, the regulated public and internal and external stakeholders.
