**The Role**
The Wellbeing and Equity Branch contributes to exciting education agendas through policies and programs that support children and students thrive in schools. The Branch takes a strengths-based approach and, where possible, individual roles are adapted to suit the skills and experience of the people in the team and branch. We are looking for fill Assistant Directors across multiple teams within the branch.
We are supportive and friendly teams offering a collaborative, team-based approach to considering complex policy issues and in devising creative, consultative and nuanced approaches to supporting Government in its work to achieve the above outcomes. In our teams, you will be supported to learn and grow professionally, and you will have opportunities to undertake research, stakeholder engagement, strategic policy and writing for Government. We prioritise wellbeing, including through our psychosocial safety plan and innovative team activities which bring us together and provide opportunities to connect with each other.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
The teams lead respectful relationships education and social cohesion policy development to increase community awareness of its purpose and delivery in schools. It engages with the states and territories, the non-government sector and other experts to provide strategic oversight of efforts across Australia that support student engagement and build the capability of teachers.
Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting the work of the relevant team. As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for the following:
Maintaining positive working relationships, a positive team culture and taking reasonable care of your own health, safety and wellbeing.?
- Display strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills to inform high quality and timely written advice, briefings, correspondence and other material for a range of audiences.
- Maintain a well-developed understanding of relevant policy frameworks in schools and provide technical advice.
- Use sound judgement and common sense to interpret and analyse evidence and data on education issues.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders including external suppliers, state and territory government representatives, contract and program partners, and other Commonwealth Government agencies.
- Actively participate in a collaborative team environment based on respect, knowledge sharing and effective communication.
- Management of APS-level staff as required.
