**Position Information**:
Sylvania High School is a comprehensive high school located in the Sutherland Shire and residing on the land of the Dharawal speaking people. The student population is approximately 750 with 55% of students identifying English as an additional langauge or dialect. The staff are committed to sustaining a positive learning culture that has ensured the school is highly valued by the community. Our school has a well-established reputation for outstanding academic achievement, as well as performing, arts, leadership and sporting success.

We have a sustained focus on student wellbeing through personal, measurable and scalable initiatives that result in our students being known valued and cared for every day, in every classroom. Our school has a Support Unit with two Autism (AU) classes, and one Intellectually Moderate and Autism (I/O, AU) class. The school already proudly advocates for equal access and opportunity for all students in inclusive learning environments. The Head Teacher Mathematics will lead our whole school approach to improving numeracy outcomes for students, particularly targeting an increase in the top two NAPLAN bands.

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching Mathematics Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2 courses.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead people through curriculum reform, implementing new syllabuses through evidence-informed teaching, learning and assessment practices.
- Proven ability to lead whole school strategic initiatives that result in improved numeracy outcomes for students.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a thriving faculty, with strong interpersonal skills that nurture the growth and development of Mathematics teachers.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
