**Role purpose**

The Surveillance Officer provides support for surveillance activities relating to communicable diseases. The Surveillance Officer is reponsible for data collection, data entry and data quality activities. This includes the review, recording and filling of communicable disease notifications, liasing with doctors and other health services for collection of surveillance data, data analysis, provision of routine reports and administrative support for projects.

**Technical expertise**:

- Demonstrated experience in collecting and reporting on notifiable communicable disease data would be an advantage
- Good understanding of the legislative frameworks and Departmental policies regarding data privacy, confidentiality and security

**Qualifications**:

- A tertiary qualification in a science or health-related field would be beneficial, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
