About the Role
**As the Guidance Officer, Wellbeing you will**:
- Develop and implement counselling and support programs for students that have a focus on preventative and early intervention strategies; are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs; and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development.
- Provide professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs, and adjustments to assist students with mild to moderate mental health/wellbeing concerns to achieve positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes.
GOs are required to participate in regular clinical and technical supervision, to ensure the provision of ongoing professional support and development.
**You will have responsibility for the following**:
- Advocating for and providing counselling and therapeutic intervention to individuals and/or groups, and providing student support, recommendations and advice to teachers, school staff and parents concerning mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing concerns.
- Supporting a cluster of schools to build the capability of school staff through providing advice, support and expertise relating to individual students with mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing concerns.
- Identifying needs and referring on for children, parents and families to community agencies, or in the instance of severe or critical mental health concerns.
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitating effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.
- Conducting activities such as student observation and psychoeducational assessment in order to determine the nature of student wellbeing concerns and make recommendations for educational adjustments and interventions.
Within the context of the role described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

- Capacity to provide leadership that enables the effective delivery of whole-of-school educational programs and services that support the inclusion of all students.
- Capacity for effective counselling and individual case management involving a multidisciplinary approach, within an environment of competing priorities.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships within and beyond the school community.
- Capacity to develop and implement student support programs and services for students with high support needs that reflect best practice and that align with departmental policies and procedures.
