**Our Journey**:
Social Workers at Monash Children’s Hospital sit within the Monash Children’s Allied Health Team, providing specialised services to infant, paediatric and adolescent patients and their families. Social work services are provided in inpatient settings including Paediatric ICU, Children’s Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; in ambulatory care services such as the Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and via state-wide services such as the Paediatric Palliative Care Program and the Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service.

**A Day in the Life**:
This is a rare opportunity to join our Social Work team in a leadership role, predominantly based in our critical care streams. This role will be largely connected to our newborn nursery. Monash Children’s Hospital nursery is one of the State’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) and Special Care Units (SCN) and provides an exciting and supportive work environment. This Senior Social Work role will provide leadership in the nursery as well as across the wider hospital. You will be responsible for supervising staff and be a driving force in quality and research activities. The role will also have a significant clinical component with a large focus on supportive care and counselling as well as engaging with families to ensure the best health outcomes for our patients and their families. There is a focus on holistic care and a systems approach is integral. The role engages with many other clinical areas as well as community agencies which will highlight your networking skills. This is a fast pace role in which good organisational and advocacy skills are required for you to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and their families.

**What you will bring**:

- You will have an extensive knowledge of resources and understanding of the assessment and intervention frameworks used to guide practice including the Children’s Youth and Families Act and appropriate referral networks.
- You will be able to demonstrate advanced skills in psycho-social assessments, problem solving, communication and discharge planning.
- You will be skilled at supporting families adjusting to their child’s illness and able to provide grief and bereavement support as required.
- You will develop and maintain strong links with universities and your Monash Health social work colleagues and supervise students and other staff as required.
- You will be a dynamic, innovative and flexible practitioner and will provide and receive regular supervision. You will have demonstrated leadership skills and be a team player.

You will be required to participate in Social Work on-call after hour’s service across the Monash Hospital sites and may be expected to work across sites within Monash Health as required.

**What you will need**:

- Preferably 7 years clinical social work experience as well as proven leadership skills including the provision of supervision to staff.
- Experience in quality projects and/or research
- A relevant social work qualification
- Eligible for AASW membership
- Experience preferably in an acute health care setting and/or with children and families and/or with Child Protection
