Agnew Wines is a family owned and operated business which produces over a million bottles annually for three distinct labels. For almost 2 decades it has seen continued growth for its award-winning wine from its own 80 ha of vineyard in the Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale regions.

We are currently seeking a suitably experienced Assistant Winemaker to join our winery team.

Reporting to the Winemakers, the Assistant Winemaker’s role is to supervise the operations of the Agnew Wines winery, always ensuring the work is conducted in an efficient and safe manner and is of a highest quality level, as directed by the Winemakers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Oversee the daily operations of the winery as set out by the Winemakers.
- Supervise the receival of fruit, crushing, pressing and wine production during vintage and ensure all processing is carried out in accordance with Winemaker’s specifications.
- Provide supervision and training to winery staff including the vintage casuals.
- Participate in wine tasting and trials at all stages throughout the winemaking process and be responsible for conducting evaluation and recommendation of treatments.
- Carry out the production plans, as set out by the Winemakers, while maintaining a high level of quality as per Agnew Wines and/or contract client’s specifications
- Where needed, prepare winery worksheets and other instructions to communicate winemaking directions with staff.
- Fill in for the Winemakers in their absence as required.
- Assist Chief Winemaker and Winemaker in the management and implementation of quality control steps and procedures as per Agnew Wines Certification requirements, including but not limited to HACCP, Organic and Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Certification.
- Assist in maintaining relevant records and information in the Agnew Wines winery and vineyard management package.
- At times, liaise with and assist contract clients of Agnew Wines as directed by the Winemakers.
- Alert the winemaking team of any issues regarding the winery facility, quality of wine and WHS.
- Assist in any marketing (onsite and off) including sales events to promote Agnew Wines.

Job Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Oenology - or near completion.
- Winery experience over three to five years.
- Current forklift and drivers licence.
- A team player with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Fault finding, problem solving and general maintenance of winery equipment.
- Physically capable of undertaking cellar duties.
- Capacity to work extended hours during vintage or as required.
