This 12 month position is in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at The Alfred, commencing February 2026. The position is designed for applicants who would like additional experience or training in adult cardiac surgery, adult cardiac transplantation, adult and paediatric lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.
The position is suited for applicants who have completed their training in cardiothoracic surgery (although they may not necessarily have sat their examination for specialist registration).
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified and trained doctors.
Our mechanical circulatory support program uses a variety of different devices, performing approximately 20 - 30 VAD implants per year as well as supporting a busy ECMO service. The Alfred provides national service for pulmonary endarterectomy. The successful applicant will be involved in all of these unit activities as well as the unit teaching program and will be expected to take part in unit research activities.
