**The Role**:
Opportunity for a RADAR Mechanical Technician to join our Above Water Systems team in Garden Island. Technical and Weapons (T&W) is a part of the AWS Domain. The T&W team is responsible for providing Repair, Maintenance & Technical support to Defence in the areas of Major and Minor Fleet units and support services located around Australia, including spec ific Marine, Electronic & Weapon systems across all Naval Services and platforms
Responsibilities will include;
- Provide Depot Level and Field Engineering services primarily for the Radar
- Mechanical systems installed in RAN vessels and Establishments.
- Supporting Above Water, Underwater Weapons Systems and Support Systems.
- Providing guidance to junior technical staff, other trades and contractors involved in the installation, commissioning and testing activities associated with mechanical systems installed locally and at remote sites
- Assist and advise customers, both internal and external, with technical issues and provide rational and sustainable resolutions
- Foster a working environment tha t is focussed on meeting the requirements of customers, both external and internal.
- Undertake minor projects and tasks including the technical direction and progress reporting activities associated with the project.
- Preparation of technical reports and pro cedures in support of Above Water and Underwater Weapons Systems, Support Systems
- Attend sea acceptance trials and conduct “at sea” system alignment and defect investigations as required.
- Interact and work with management/employees to promote teamwork
- Other duties as detailed by Manager
**How about you?**
- 12 appropriate modules of a National Diploma; or 12 appropriate modules of an Advanced Diploma; or equivalent
- Drivers Licence - Class C
- Physically be able to work in a shipboard environment (climb ladders, ma sts, confined space work, manual handling work etc.).
- As required, be available for weekend and shift work
**Good to Know:
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
As part of our standard process you will complete police, medical, employment and reference checks. Thales also complies with current public health orders in place and as such you may be requested to provide your COVID-19 vaccination record.
