Clayton, Australia Monash University Full time

**The Opportunity**

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is interested in pursuing research that explores the intersection of women rights and popular culture (e.g. music, literature, films etc.) in post-1998 Indonesia. The research is expected to be transdisciplinary, building upon works in the fields of gender, policy and governance, social movements, culture, and media studies, and will aim to develop insights that can shape future policy making efforts in addressing the country’s systemic inequalities and, in turn, advance Monash’s Impact 2030 goal of fostering thriving, resilient communities.

Monash University is focused on tackling the challenges of the age including climate change, geo-political security and thriving communities (see Impact 2030). As the largest university in Australia, Monash is well placed to leverage its globally networked campuses and international alliances in Europe and Asia. The Faculty of Arts at Monash is diverse and vibrant, with an unrivalled breadth of disciplinary expertise ranging from film and media studies, anthropology, political sciences and climate adaptation through to gender studies, sociology, geography and history, among many others. We have a strong and supportive research culture, led by internationally recognised scholars successful in attracting national and international competitive research funding.

The successful applicant must be an Indonesian citizen. Interested applicants who identify as women or members of gender, religious, or ethnic minorities are highly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have an excellent academic track record in one or more of the following: governance and policy studies, gender studies, and media and film studies. Competence in qualitative research methods is essential and quantitative skills are desirable.
