With a deep understanding of the psychosocial challenges that accompany chronic and acute mental illness, you'll provide comprehensive assessments, crisis management, and brief interventions tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual and their support network. Your ability to adapt communication styles, work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, and prioritize competing demands will ensure the delivery of high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.
The Social Worker in the Mental Health Acute Inpatient unit is responsible for providing a professional social work service to Mental Health consumers and their carers and families whilst the consumer is admitted to the relevant ward.
The social workers on the ward are responsible for assisting with linking consumers with care systems to facilitate effective care and minimise relapse and re-admission. Workers will work towards enabling independence for consumers to facilitate recovery ensuring holistic multi-disciplinary care.

**About You**
- You will have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number).
- You have a well-developed understanding of behavioural and psychiatric illness and associated therapeutic interventions.
- You have demonstrated experience in providing psychosocial assessment and crisis management, within person centred, trauma informed and brief intervention models and preferably within a health clinical setting and or within the clinical specialty where applicable.

**Where you'll be working**

The role is based at Miri Miri, Older Persons Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Wyong Hospital. Miri Miri provides care for people over the age of 65 years with complex mental health needs. The role may also be required to provide cover to other mental health inpatient units during staff leave and/or vacancy.
The Social Worker is to provide assessment, crisis and brief intervention, counselling and case planning to assist patients/carers to deal with the emotional impact of illness, to facilitate smooth transitions through the hospital system and to access appropriate community services. The Social Worker will work with the multidisciplinary team, senior managers and other inpatient social workers to ensure the delivery of effective and proactive social work services and psychosocial care.
