The Homelessness Melbourne Metropolitan region provides a broad range of integrated services to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged adults experiencing homelessness in Melbourne’s Central metropolitan areas including residential and community services across six sites in St Kilda, Footscray, North Melbourne, West Melbourne and Kensington.

Community programs include the Crisis Contact Centre, Community Outreach Services for single adults, support for older people in public housing, rough sleeper and street sleeping initiatives, community participation and AOD support.

Homelessness Melbourne Metro is committed to providing person centered care, trauma informed practice and a strengths-based approach to improve the health, wellbeing and housing outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.

The role you would play

We have an exciting opportunity for a Diversity Liaison Worker to provide support to residents with diverse backgrounds and experiences in the North Melbourne Housing Estate and contribute to the overall function of the program.

You will work from a social justice perspective, establishing and facilitating activities that promote social inclusion and diversity, supporting resident sustaining tenancy for residency across the North Melbourne Estate.

You will successfully
- Build productive working relationship with residents
- Actively supporting the accommodation needs of residents
- Research and develop partnerships with appropriate specialised support services for clients identified within diverse community
- Refer clients to appropriate services to assist in sustaining tenancy and maintaining good health
- Build a strong and inclusive culture with residents based on mutual respect and collaboration
- Facilitate access to a range of recreational activities for residents
- Organise and implement activities, programs and events which foster social connectedness, create awareness and develop respect between residents and the wider community
- Promote awareness and inclusion for clients from all backgrounds

This is a Part Time (0.6FTE) position to work alongside the Housing Support for The Aged Workers in supporting housing, social and home care support to tenants over the age of 55.

You will have
- Experience working in the areas of housing, homelessness or community aged care is preferable
- Minimum qualification of Diploma in Community Services
- Capability to successfully work with and engage diverse communities
- Fluency speaking in a second language (other than English), particularly in Cantonese/Mandarin (Desirable)
- Experience working with interpreters (Desirable)
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Current and valid VIC Working with Children Check
- Ability to provide proof of work eligibility in Australia

The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.
