**The Organisation**
The Centre for Molecular Oncology is a new research centre established within the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW which is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer. The Centre applies basic, translational and clinical approaches to understanding cancer biology through patient-centred discovery programs and uses this information to improve patient outcomes through clinical trials.

**Why this role matters**
The Research Officer, Team Lead positions will play a key role within the School of Biomedical Sciences, specifically to manage a small-medium operational team and provide direction for patient recruitment associated with Cancer Screening Program (CaSP) comprehensive genetic profiling nationally. This will include supervision, management, and the motivation of team members daily as well as contact with patients, liaison with clinicians and medical services, data quality checking and study reporting. The Research Officer (Team Lead - CaSP - Molecular Oncology) provides expert knowledge and technical skills that facilitate making in support of the Cancer Screening Program and provides technical support to staff and students.

The Research Officer (Team Lead - CaSP - Molecular Oncology) reports to the Program Manager and has direct reports.

**Some skills required**:

- Demonstrated experience in business operations and operations management within a professional setting, including process improvement management and/or continuous improvement management
- Strong track record of leading and supervising teams in operational environments, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes and driving continuous improvement efforts.
- Experience monitoring and providing comments on performance metrics.
- Demonstrated skills in resource planning, goal setting and operational project management.
- Excellent time management abilities, with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using sound judgement and initiative.
- Knowledge of business improvement activities and experience in leading change processes.
- Understanding of patient’s privacy and confidentiality protocols.
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent experience or equivalent skills acquired through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Previous experience or training in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean 6 Sigma, Kaizen or similar frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
