Role Overview

The position will allow for on-the-job training and a rare opportunity to enter the inter-dealer broking sector.

ICAP operates a small team of experienced brokers who provide broking services in New Zealand dollar interest rate products to its customer base, all of whom are either locally based trading banks, or offshore Investment banks.

We are looking for someone to join our Sydney based Kiwi desk.

You will be given the opportunity to learn and understand how markets function in Interest Rate Swaps and other derivative products, while also gaining exposure to the shorter dated money market products and Government Bonds.

Interest rate markets are volatile, with New Zealand being one of many countries which has seen big moves in interest rates over the last 18 months. While these moves higher may be nearly complete, the uncertainty globally and in the New Zealand economy is expected to keep rates markets interesting as we look ahead.

ICAP will provide strong training and a professional and enjoyable place of employment for someone who wishes to succeed in this exciting area of financial markets.

Role Responsibilities
- Understand and conduct transactions in wholesale interest rate products on behalf of customers
- Monitor markets and follow financial news and developments, understanding how this may impact NZ interest rates
- Provide complete support to the brokers for the smooth running of the desk
- Ensure timely input of trades into trading systems
- Resolve any trade queries received internally and externally, and ensure any trade discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner
- Identify trade opportunities and calculate strategies
- Keep trade records up to date
- Update real-time manual /electronic whiteboards with market data
- Provide input on various projects for brokers and traders
- Provide trade details to brokers and traders on a daily basis
- Give live quotes to traders through the messaging systems
- Understand the underlying products being traded and keep up to date with knowledge of new products/procedures
- Liaise with clients, (via telephone and face to face) to understand the business objectives of your clients as to provide a reliable and efficient broking service
- Develop new business with existing clients and on-board new clients following the correct process with the Client On-Boarding team
- Promote ICAP as a company

What to expect
- In the first three months, you’ll develop an understanding of the requirements of the role and begin to support our senior brokers.
- You’ll be booking trades and sending confirmations.
- As you gain more knowledge and understanding of the products, you’ll be assisting with inbound queries from existing clients, the onboarding of new clients along with attending client visits.
- You’ll use your initiative and identify new junior traders in the market and begin developing relationships to support the generation of new business.

Competence:

- A high degree of interpersonal and relationship building skills are required for this role, alongside the ability to perform under pressure and work and think fast while markets are constantly changing.
- Your numerical skills will need to be strong, and the job requires a high level of attention to detail.
