About the Role

We are now seeking a highly motivated Head Gardener to manage and coordinate the maintenance and development of gardens, high profile horticultural assets and native landscapes/ biodiversity sites within some of the most prestigious and beautiful parks and open spaces in Melbourne.
As Head Gardener you will lead, develop and supervise a Horticultural team to complete all required horticultural maintenance tasks and activities.

**Key responsibilities**:
Plan and organise all required maintenance activities within areas of responsibility
Lead small teams of likeminded horticulturists/bushland managers.
Complete all horticultural maintenance activities to a high standard & as per contract specification
Assist with the installation and maintenance of native landscapes/ biodiversity sites
Assist in the monitoring of tree health throughout the municipality and reporting issues
Provide overall custodianship to allocated areas of responsibility
Provide a single point of contact for council officers, event organisation and contractors
Manage electronic daily schedules and work orders
Actively protect City of Melbourne assets and provide a safe, high quality public environment for residents and visitors within the region, including daily litter removal and waste management.
About You
The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
A Horticultural or Conservation and Ecosystem management qualification at a minimum AQF Level 4 or suitable equivalent
Current Manual Drivers Licence and Chemical Users Certificate or equivalent
Significant experience in maintenance of high-profile horticultural landscapes, native landscapes, bushland management
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of Qualified and Assistant Gardeners, Apprentices and Trade Assistants in a similar role
