- Develop and manage research agreements and contracts with academia, industry, and other research agencies in Australia or overseas.

**About our Team**
Research Technology and Operations Division (RTO) delivers specialist capabilities to Defence Innovation Science and Technology (IS&T). RTO comprises a professional workforce of engineers, technicians, computational scientists and other staff who provide a wide range of highly specialised and unique research capability and innovative solutions delivering advanced research platforms for defence, national security and the wider IS&T ecosystem. RTO capabilities accelerate and protect Defence’s science and technology advances and promote a collaborative, compliant, safe and healthy workplace.

RTOs work areas include:

- Emerging digital science capabilities, including computational and data intensive science, research data and information and laboratory and experimental systems.
- Scientific computing including the development and acquisition of a world-class secure High Performance Computing (HPC) capability for advance modelling and simulation.
- Nationally recognised, unique and novel research engineering capabilities.
- Development and implementation of the Outstanding Research Infrastructure Powering Innovation pillar, a major component of the More Together: Defence Science and Technology Strategy 2030.
- Defence innovation, science and technology compliance, assurance and sovereignty through complex research safety, research security, workforce capability and talent and scientific resource management.

RTO also provides specialised research enabling capabilities to other groups and services with Defence, the Australian Intelligence communities, our allies and/or our partners in industry and academia. Within Digital Science and Scientific Computing (DSSC), the Computational and Data Intensive Sciences (CDIS) conducts research and innovates where Science and Technology (S&T) converges with computing infrastructure to deliver increased research productivity and enabling new science discovery for Defence researchers.

This encompasses DSTG's HPC and cloud platforms and multi-disciplinary S&T areas like workflow optimisation, machine learning, data visualisation, computer system benchmarking and code optimisation; and providing expert S&T advice in those areas. With a strong emphasis on security that is critical to Defence, it extends to include research focussed DevSecOps platforms and tools which enables DSTG researchers with ready-to-use common computational S&T tools, trusted code repositories, container support paired with code automations supporting secure-by-design development.
- Expertise in HPC: A strong understanding of HPC systems, parallel computing architectures, and distributed data storage systems.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is essential to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data processing and analysis.
