Technical Officer, Chemical Science

Overview:
- Part-time, Fixed Term position until 31/12/25 - 0.6 FTE (3 Days)- Salary HEW 5 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements- Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University
- About The Position

The Technical Officer will report to the Technical Coordinator and be responsible for delivering technical support and guidance to ensure the effective operation of designated laboratories and workspaces.

This role includes maintaining and demonstrating laboratory equipment and instruments, while providing technical assistance to staff and students. Under the direction of the Technical Coordinator, the officer will ensure the timely upkeep of laboratories, support the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, client-focused service.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a Chemistry laboratory in a teaching or research setting including the safe use and handling of hazardous materials and waste.
- 2. Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining laboratory-based instruments equipment relevant to Chemistry Laboratories and generating appropriate operating documentation.
- 3. Proven track record of building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including understanding and embracing a client focused framework.
- 4. Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry regulations or standards related to the field within the scope of the service area.
- 5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds.

6. Demonstrated experience and understanding of working in accordance to the RMIT value statements or similar frameworks in other organisations.
