Owing to our growth and success AXA XL is looking for an experienced Underwriter to join our Sport & Leisure team.

Positioned within the Specialty division, our specialist underwriters insure a wide spectrum of occupations, events and activities, large and small, from a fitness instructor to a visitor attraction.

Our experience and technical know-how allow us to offer client solutions across a broad range of products including Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Management Liability, Group Personal Accident and Property.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the respective sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs while ensuring profitability.
- Contributing to the direction of the Sport & Leisure portfolio with the aim of achieving the business plan targets, acting always within individual authority.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with brokers and clients, developing new business opportunities, identifying, implementing and managing Coverholder arrangements that are within appetite.
- Assisting in the further development and subsequent operation of the S&L Brooklyn Underwriting e-trade platform.
- Supporting the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
- Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
- Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants and management team.

You will report to the Senior Underwriter, Sport & Leisure.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

- Extensive underwriting experience in casualty, property and group personal accident lines of business within the sport & leisure sector.
- Perform tasks according to established procedures, with ability to exercise discretion.
- Use judgment to identify and solve day to day problems in straightforward situations.
- Marketing - Effectively plan for sales and business development. Integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
- Negotiation/Sales - Plan, structure and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Analytical Skills - Visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems in order to make key business decisions.
- Interpersonal Savvy - Build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients & colleagues with the intention of improving personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
- Strategy and Planning - Make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results. Has knowledge of financial targets and levers in order to deliver on departmental business plan.
- Industry Knowledge - Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business by improving personal technical & functional knowledge.
