This Government Department is responsible for delivering policies and programmes that support the Australian Community. This program provides support to individuals who have experienced hardship and need assistance through providing counselling, case management and financial support. There is a current need for a high performing APS5 through to EL1 Policy officers with a strong emphasis on delivering a positive impact within the Australian community.

**Your new role**

As a member in this team your responsibilities will vary based on experience. However they will be responsible for collaborating and engaging with external and internal stakeholders to develop and implement policies by:

- leading the development and implementation of policy
- leading research and analysing information and data from a wide range of sources to inform policy development
- providing advice on complex policy issues
- building relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups to identify opportunities and achieve effective policy outcomes
- partnering with external agencies to undertake policy co-design with stakeholders
- representing the Branch at meetings with internal and external stakeholders communicating our position and/or developing a shared position
- writing high quality policy papers including research and discussion papers, consultation papers, briefs, submissions and correspondence
- supervising and developing staff to build a high performing team through coaching, feedback and encouraging career development.
- gathering information from a wide variety of sources to support research and analyse the information including data to support evidence and insights to inform policy development and implementation
- facilitating relationship building and collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders to support co-design of policies and reforms
- writing high quality papers, briefs and submissions that articulate policy options and recommendations
- implementing and managing policy projects which may include procurement, project management and reporting

**What you'll need to succeed**

We are looking for people who have demonstrated:

- excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- strong research, conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to think strategically and innovatively
- experience working under limited direction, with the ability to exercise a considerable degree of initiative and appropriate judgement
- excellent written communication skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with attention to detail
- experience in policy development and/or implementation

- demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher.
