The Role

The Data and Critical Systems Security Specialist will play a critical role in developing, reviewing, and implementing Virgin Australia Group's data security program. This includes ensuring compliance with legislative standards, collaborating with specialists to identify and mitigate security risks, and creating a metrics framework to measure compliance with data security controls.

As a member of the Information Security Team, you'll provide support to other specialists, including audits and security reporting, and production of risk and maturity assessments related to data and critical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, implement, and maintain the VA Data Security Program to protect personal information and critical data.
  • Collaborate with specialists to identify and mitigate security risks to personal information and business-critical data/systems.
  • Create and manage a metrics framework to measure compliance with data security controls and their overall effectiveness.
  • Maintain PI Data Maps and conduct routine audits of systems, processes, data storage, and business owners.
  • Stay updated on data security legislation and best practices, ensuring the implementation of necessary changes.
What You'll Need
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas clearly.
  • Experience in consulting and client-facing roles.
  • High-level understanding of critical technical infrastructure and networking.
  • Ability to work with differing stakeholders, including external vendors.
  • Strong time management skills, allowing for multi-tasking while managing shifting priorities.
  • Innovative thinker with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for organisational and process improvements.
  • Thorough understanding of the project/system development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with privacy laws, data protection, and information security regulations, and frameworks such as GDPR.
Desirable but Not Essential
  • Tertiary qualification in IT or a similar field.
  • Experience of PI data management remediation projects in a large, complex enterprise environment.
  • Ability to conduct IT risk assessments and provide solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Strong understanding of PI data information management security standards and Australian privacy law.
