AI Researcher Opportunity

This role offers a chance to conduct cutting-edge research in AI-enhanced data systems, leveraging expertise in core database system techniques, indexing, query processing, and system-level optimization.

About the Role:

  • The position involves conducting original research in AI for databases, developing intelligent storage, indexing, and query optimization techniques, and translating research into deployable prototypes and open-source tools.
  • You will also be responsible for publishing in leading conferences, teaching (20%), and supervising research students, as well as engaging with industry and academic collaborators.

About You:

  • A PhD (completed or near-completion) in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, with demonstrated research strength in data systems, AI for databases, or large-scale data infrastructure is required.
  • You should have expertise in core database system techniques, including indexing, query processing, and system-level optimization, as well as strong programming and system design skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct system-oriented research, with experience designing and evaluating complex, data-intensive systems, is essential.
  • Demonstrated research impact, with publications in top-tier international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, is highly valued.
  • Collaborative and independent work capabilities, with experience contributing to high-performing research teams and cross-disciplinary or industry-focused research projects, are also necessary.

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 3 years, based at the St Lucia Campus, with a base salary range of $82-$109,246.18 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A).
