About the Australian Government Apprenticeship Program

The Australian Government Apprenticeship Program is a career development opportunity for individuals seeking to launch a long-term career in the public sector.

This 12-month program provides participants with a learning and development pathway, expanding their personal and professional capabilities while building confidence in a career with the APS.

Responsibilities and Skills
  • Contribute to team goals and participate in teamwork activities.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and clients.
  • Respond to changes in client needs and expectations.
  • Set priorities, complete allocated tasks, and make decisions within defined parameters.
  • Plan work goals and priorities that align with and achieve own and team outcomes.
  • Work under general supervision and direction against established priorities and procedures.
  • Exercise autonomy about how work tasks are performed.
  • Making decisions within defined parameters and following established procedures and protocols.
  • Understand relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
  • Provide advice using established policy and procedures as a guide.
  • Undertake straightforward tasks which may have an element of complexity.
Eligibility and Benefits

To be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Be willing to undergo any police, character, health or other checks, as required.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government Security clearance.
